The Arkansas Heart Hospital is a specialty
hospital devoted to cardiovascular care in Little Rock. Its service area
includes all of Arkansas as well as portions of neighboring states. Heliplanners
assisted HDR's Dallas office with project site selection, design and entitlement
issues. The site's steep terrain offered the design team some unique challenges
in siting the helistop. In order to meet obstruction clearance and dimensional
needs, the project team selected a circular helistop design featuring a
17-foot high retaining wall to separate the helistop elevation from the
nearby loading dock elevation. The hospital and helistop were completed
in 1997. Both are now fully operational.
