After Heliplanners prepared a comparison of rooftop vs. ground level helistops, hospital administration and county health officials made the decision to include an elevated helistop with the new Trauma Tower to replace the existing at-grade helistop. Heliplanners assisted the project team with design of a 60-foot by 80-foot helideck designed to accommodate helicopters up to and including the Bell 212 and Bell 412. The helideck was approved by Caltrans' Aeronautics Program and became operational in 1998.
